END OF HERITAGE CLUBS
By: Kaylee O’Dwyer
WOW! What a year it has been with Heritage Clubs! The clubs include: Quilting, Cashiers Past and Present, and my favorite, Hiking Club. In each club you do a lot of fun activities, like in quilting you make your own quilt to take home and you do story-telling. Or in Cashiers Past and Present you learn about what Cashiers was, how people would build their houses, and you go on fun field-trips including: the Fire Dept., Rescue Squad, Post Office, Hospital, the Saw Mill, and we have visitors come in to teach us about Cashiers Past and Present. And last but not least, we have Hiking Club. Every Wednesday, if it’s good weather, we would go on a hike, including: Rock Mtn., Lonesome Valley, Sunset Valley, Sunset Rock, the Highlands Nature Center, Whitewater Falls and Whiteside Mtn. All of these clubs were fun to me. I learned a lot of things in Heritage Clubs.
My favorite memories from each club I will probably remember for the rest of my time at Summit Charter School. The first memory that pops into my head from quilting club with Mrs. Chandler and Mrs. LaFontaine was when I took home my quilt. I was so proud of my accomplishment. I got so many compliments from other people in my group and people not in my group. My quilt was plaid and the colors blended into each other.
My best memory in Cashiers Past and Present with Mr. Hensley and Mrs. Hughes would have to be, going to the Hospital. The Hospital was fun for me (but not for other people). Some of my favorite parts were, taking my blood pressure and my pulse, and the lab where there was blood testing and stuff like that. And my best memory in Hiking Club with Mrs. Bennett and Mr. Sink was… Well, I liked all of the hikes. But if I had to choose 2 out of the 7 hikes I’d choose, Whiteside Mtn. and to the top of Rock Mtn. Whiteside Mtn. was my first real hike and Rock Mtn. was my last hike in Heritage Clubs.
One time, on a hike in High Hampton we saw a SNAKE!!! A creepy, long, interesting SNAKE!!! Whiteside Mtn. was an amazing view from the top. All of the hikes were fun, yet, tiring. Through all of the sweat and blisters, it all paid off at the top.
All of the Heritage Clubs were fun and I enjoyed them all and I hope there will be something similar to Heritage Clubs next year in middle school.
THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!
A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR SUMMIT FAMILIES!
At the close of our classroom competition on Friday, May 30, we had 75% participation in the ’07-’08 Annual Fund. When the competition began on May 5, we were at 33%. Parents, we more than doubled our participation in 4 weeks! There is still time to give if you haven’t already done so. Annual fund envelopes are in the front office and may be turned in through June 30, 2008.
LOST AND FOUND
We have lots of lost and found! Items will be donated to charity after Friday. Please come and check if you are missing items.
